About Us

Turning Compassion into Action

Empowering the helpless, restoring dignity, building hope

Helpless Hope Society (HHS) is a grassroots non-profit organization dedicated to transforming lives across Purvanchal, Uttar Pradesh. Founded in 2019 with a humble beginning — a small home-tuition initiative for 25 children in Indarpur, Campierganj — HHS has evolved into a people-powered movement that now uplifts thousands through education, healthcare, livelihood, and community development.

We work where hope is often the rarest resource — among the poor, the disabled, the elderly, and children forced into begging or labour. Through holistic programs in education, women’s empowerment, health, water and sanitation, disability inclusion, and environmental protection, we build paths to dignity and self-reliance. Every project we run is rooted in compassion, transparency, and collective strength — because lasting change is possible only when communities rise together and no one is left behind.

What We Do

From classrooms to communities

Helpless Hope Society’s programs are designed to bring dignity, equality, and self-reliance to every life we touch. We work directly with communities through awareness, training, and empowerment initiatives to make development people-driven and sustainable.

Child Development

Running Bal Gurukul centres, scholarships, and bridge education programs for underprivileged and begging children to ensure every child learns with joy and confidence.

Women Empowerment

Through adult literacy classes, self-help groups, and leadership programs, we help women gain control over their lives and become change makers within communities.

Skill Building

Vocational training, micro-enterprises, and rural employment initiatives promote financial independence, especially among youth and women.

Health and Nutrition

Community health camps, maternal and child care, and nutrition drives strengthen families and improve community health across rural Purvanchal.

Clean Water. Safe Sanitation. Healthy Lives.

Water and Sanitation

Access to clean water and sanitation remains a major challenge in rural Uttar Pradesh. Many families still depend on unsafe sources, leading to disease and malnutrition. Through our Water and Sanitation program, we promote hygiene awareness, construct toilets, distribute water filters, and facilitate community handpump installations in villages where clean water is scarce.
Our team conducts hygiene workshops in schools and slums to teach children the importance of washing hands, menstrual hygiene, and safe waste disposal. By combining infrastructure support with behaviour change communication, Helpless Hope Society ensures that every drop of clean water becomes a source of life, not illness — and every family lives with dignity, health, and hope.

Every Ability Deserves Opportunity.

Disability Support and Inclusion

Persons with disabilities are often the most invisible in society — excluded from education, jobs, and public life. At Helpless Hope Society, we believe inclusion is not charity; it is justice. Through our Disability Support Program, we provide assistive devices like wheelchairs, crutches, and hearing aids to those in need, while also ensuring access to healthcare and education.
We work closely with families to create awareness about government schemes, rights, and vocational opportunities for differently-abled individuals. Our inclusion drives encourage schools and workplaces to adopt barrier-free infrastructure. Each initiative restores dignity, self-confidence, and independence — ensuring that no one is left behind because of physical or social barriers.

Leadership that inspires change.

The Vision Behind the Mission

Skand Kumar Chaurasiya, Founder & President of Helpless Hope Society, established the organization with a simple yet powerful vision — to build an inclusive, just, and compassionate society where no one is left behind because of poverty or circumstance. Born and raised in rural Uttar Pradesh, he experienced firsthand how social and economic inequalities limit opportunities for children and families. The struggles he saw around him became the driving force behind his mission to bring education, healthcare, and dignity to those who need it most.

In 2019, with nothing more than a small room, a few notebooks, and immense determination, he began teaching 25 children from low-income families in Indarpur, Campierganj.

The Vision Behind the Mission

Skand Kumar Chaurasiya, Founder & President, established Helpless Hope Society with the dream of building an inclusive and just society. Growing up in rural Uttar Pradesh, he witnessed how poverty and inequality stripped people of their potential. Determined to change that, he began teaching children from low-income families in his own home — a step that became the foundation of HHS.

“When I started Helpless Hope Society, I didn’t have big resources — only the will to help. We began with 25 children and today, we stand beside thousands of families. Real change comes when compassion meets collective effort. Every person we serve teaches us the value of resilience, hope, and humanity.”

Everything you need to know about Helpless Hope Society.

Here are some of the most common questions donors, partners, and volunteers ask about our work and how we make change happen on the ground.

Helpless Hope Society (HHS) is a registered non-profit organization working since 2019 for education, women empowerment, healthcare, livelihood, and community development across Uttar Pradesh’s Purvanchal region.

It started with one classroom in Indarpur, Campierganj, where 25 underprivileged children received free home tuition. That small effort grew into a large-scale community movement.

We work across 15 districts including Gorakhpur, Basti, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Kushinagar, and surrounding regions of the Nepal border.

We organize hygiene awareness drives, install handpumps and water filters, and support the construction of household and community toilets. We also conduct school-based WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) programs to build lifelong healthy habits among children.

In many villages of Purvanchal, families still rely on unsafe water sources and lack basic sanitation facilities. Our focus is to ensure every family has access to clean drinking water, toilets, and hygiene education — because good health begins with safe water and sanitation.
